Sociology in Action: A Chinese Perspective

Liuchang Tan is a budding sociologist, an inquisitive wanderer, and a curious observer of the world. With an insatiable curiosity about how human society interacts with technological advancement, she delves into the captivating intersection of Science and Technology Studies (STS), Sociology of Culture and Knowledge, Economic Sociology, Media and Communication Studies, Gender Studies, and Critical Theories, primarily through qualitative methodology.

Beyond her intellectual pursuit of knowledge in the vast sociological literature on gender, technology, and capitalism, Liuchang also possesses a profound passion for Asian and Asian American Studies — a testament to her heritage and an important lens through which she examines power dynamics and socio-cultural fabrics. Recognizing the significance of in-depth research into the diverse Asian communities to inform the general public’s understanding of non-Western cultures and societies, Liuchang hopes that her unwavering dedication and interdisciplinary approach will eventually not only make theoretical and empirical contributions to the development of sociology as a scientific discipline but also foster greater inclusivity and bridge the epistemic gaps in today’s polarized world.
